Final score 23 Moneyglass vs 18 Glenravel (points)
This was an absorbing, entertaining and closely fought game between two evenly matchedteams. Missing two key players, Moneyglass were forced to field a reorganised team. However, right from the throw in they displayed great determination and teamwork, moving the ball quickly upfield with probing kick passes, taking three points without reply. Glenravel then levelled with a goal, quickly followed by a point. Tit for tat scores followed with Moneyglass edging into a halftime lead of 0 -9 to 1 -4.
Early in the second half, a heavy rain shower that made the pitch and ball greasy, added to the excitement and tension. Sensing victory, both teams “upped the ante”, playing courageous, clever and adventurous football in the now “tricky conditions”. Well worked scores came at both ends and it was only in the final five minutes that Moneyglass edged ahead to win by five points.
Both teams displayed great discipline, determination and skill in this game, which was a pleasure to watch. Consistency of approach will pay dividends for both teams in the remaining games of this season - win, lose or draw!
Moneyglass 2 - 6 Tir na Og 2 - 10
This was an evenly matched, entertaining game between two teams each missing key players through injury. However Tir na Og always had the edge, displaying better teamwork, moving the ball quickly, and picking off points regularly.
Moneyglass tried hard especially at midfield, but overall their concentration and workrate, did not match that of their opponents. Midway through the second half Moneyglass did stage a revival and levelled the scores, only to lose the initiative by conceding a goal in the next minute. From then on Tir na Og retained control, winning, deservedly, by four points.

Moneyglass started off this game playing with composure and confidence, moving the ball quickly and taking some fine points. Twenty minutes into the game, Glenavy looked rattled as Moneyglass lead by six points.Gradually, however, Glenavy settled to their task, and as their passing improved, so they whittled away the deficit. The Moneyglass defence were frequently guilty of ball watching and paid the price, conceding three quick goals. At halftime the tables were turned, as Glenavy lead by six points.
In the second half Moneyglass fought back gamely, but never regained the lead, and eventually Glenavy ran out deserving winners by seven points.
This opening game of the league featured some very good passages of play from both teams, but overall the game was patchy, and both will be looking for improvement as the season progresses. Final score 1-9 to 4-7.

Dunloy 6 - 9 Moneyglass 4 - 9
Moneyglass were caught “napping” at the start of this game, conceding a first minute goal, quickly followed by two fine points from a very alert, determined and fit Dunloy team. Dunloy kept up the momentum and their scores came regularly, as they played a classic “catch and kickpass” game, only handpassing to release a player into space.
As a result the ball moved quickly up the field, and for most of the first half, the Moneyglass defence were under continuous pressure. At half time Dunloy led by an impressive twelve points.
In the second half Moneyglass reorganised and showed more commitment, competing strongly for the breaking ball. Gradually the Moneyglass scores came, and the margin narrowed to four points with ten minutes remaining. Moneyglass pressed hard for more scores but in their anxiety for possession were guilty of loose marking.
To their credit Dunloy kept their formation and, once in possession of the ball, kicked long relieving passes upfield to their forwards. In the end Dunloy tagged on another two points to secure a very deserved win, and progress to the next round of the U16 “Shield”.
It was only in the last quarter of this game that Moneyglass really surged ahead. Tir Na nOg (Whitehill, Randalstown) settled quickly at the start, helped by two early goals. Gradually Moneyglass came back into the game, inspired by two great points from Seamus “Rumpy” Redmond, and led by three points at halftime.
