Unger 16’s Boys out of Shield

Dunloy 6 - 9 Moneyglass 4 - 9

Moneyglass were caught “napping” at the start of this game, conceding a first minute goal, quickly followed by two fine points from a very alert, determined and fit Dunloy team. Dunloy kept up the momentum and their scores came regularly, as they played a classic “catch and kickpass” game, only handpassing to release a player into space.

As a result the ball moved quickly up the field, and for most of the first half, the Moneyglass defence were under continuous pressure. At half time Dunloy led by an impressive twelve points.

In the second half Moneyglass reorganised and showed more commitment, competing strongly for the breaking ball. Gradually the Moneyglass scores came, and the margin narrowed to four points with ten minutes remaining. Moneyglass pressed hard for more scores but in their anxiety for possession were guilty of loose marking.

To their credit Dunloy kept their formation and, once in possession of the ball, kicked long relieving passes upfield to their forwards. In the end Dunloy tagged on another two points to secure a very deserved win, and progress to the next round of the U16 “Shield”.
